Summer Institute 1: Content & Pedagogy (ELA, History, Science, Math)
Dates: August 16-19
Time: 9AM-3PM
Location: LA Convention Center

Outcomes:

• Develop a community of learners and leaders
• Increase participants’ understanding of CA State Standards
• Develop and facilitate quality lesson design and instruction in core content area (lesson, unit)
• Identify critical understandings and big ideas that are essential for student success
• Time and practice to map lessons that take into account scope and sequence of content
• Plan curriculum out in small groups
• Increase participants’ understanding of differentiated instructional and assessment
• Make connections between content area, strategies and curriculum to build literacy across all subject areas

Summer Institute 2: Building Leadership Capacity, Adaptive Schools
Date: August 23-26
Time: 9AM-3PM
Location: UCLA Faculty Center

Outcomes

• Build leadership capacity around the following:
  • For elementary and middle school, Implementing Professional Learning at school site and school planning strategies
  • For high school, Small Schools Planning Around Selected Topics (Advisory, Small School Themes, Senior Thesis, etc.)
• Time and practice: Strategies and tools for leading learning,
  • Ways of Talking, Meeting Structures and Developing Groups, Using Conflict as a Resource, Practice Dialogue
