Summer Engagement Campaign

The Partnership has launched its "Summer of Engagement" - a campaign mobilizing over 4,000 Partnership families in South Los Angeles and Watts to  raise involvement in neighborhood schools.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa kicked off the summer series with Markham Middle School's Community Walk on August 7. The Mayor himself knocked on several homes on East 102nd Street, meeting with students and families from the Jordan-Downs housing projects.  He offered a personal welcome into the Partnership community and suggested ways to track their children's academic progress.

"We're knocking on doors to engage parents. We believe the key to successfully transforming our schools is to bring parents in," Mayor Villaraigosa said.

Volunteers from the Watts Community, the Office of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa,The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools and neighborhood organizations  visited 900 student homes, registered 200 parents for the Markham Parent Club and confirmed over 300 families to attend the campus' Back-to-School Bar-B-Que on August 26.
